Nate Adams joins the department in August 2019 as Assistant Professor.
Adams is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada (2018-2019). Previously he was a Research Fellow at the Justitia Amplificata Centre for Advanced Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt in Frankfurt am Main, Germany (2015-2018) and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia (2014-2015). He received his PhD in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis (2014). He works in social and political philosophy and philosophy of law, currently focusing on the authority and legitimacy of institutions. He is interested in the role of institutions in securing our welfare and freedom, the limits on authority, and the role of citizens in constituting and contesting public power.
